SUMMARY:Ribbon Cutting for Spring Creek II Townhomes
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to celebrate the Grand Opening of Spring Creek II Townhomes!\n\n\n\nThe City of Northfield\, Three Rivers Community Action and project partners invite the community the grand opening of the Spring Creek II Townhomes on Thursday\, September 28 at 4 p.m. at 2200 Millstream Lane.\n\nSpring Creek II is extension of the Spring Creek I townhomes built in 2013 that has 28 units. The new neighborhood includes five buildings. Three of the buildings are already open and occupied with another building opening in October and the last one opening in November. In total 32 townhome units will be available for modest income families with children 8 two-bedroom units\, 22 three-bedroom units and 2 four-bedroom units including 2 accessible units.\n\nLast year\, the project held a groundbreaking ceremony. Over the last several years\, the Three Rivers Community Development team has been working with the Northfield Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA) to create a plan to develop more affordable rental housing units on the Southbridge site. With the success of the original Spring Creek project\, the HRA and Three Rivers developed the Spring Creek II project concept together.\n\n"These newly completed affordable townhomes was a challenge and a true community effort to overcome obstacles and bring affordable housing to Northfield\," said Melissa Hanson\, Northfield's housing coordinator. "This process started in 2017 with a couple of failed funding requests to the state before the state finally approved our application for low-income housing tax credits. However\, even with state assistance\, we were faced with a global pandemic\, supply chain issues and rising inflation. As a means to help bridge these barriers\, the City Council and HRA really stepped up to bring these homes to fruition."\n\nNorthfield Housing and Redevelopment Authority contributed 4.5 acres of land and a forgivable loan for just over $500\,000 to the project. The Northfield City Council approved tax increment financing for $689\,000.\n\nThe project includes 8 units that will be available to families will be at or below 60% of the area median income\, which will be administered by Lloyd Management.\n\nThe project includes 4 units for local families that do not have stable housing. Three Rivers is partnering with South Central Human Relations Center\, who will deliver on-site support services and rental assistance to help these families become successful\, long-term tenants.\n\nThe project includes 4 units of housing for people with developmental disabilities. Rice County Adult Services and Laura Baker Services Association is administering and coordinating services for these units. Rental assistance for these units will come from the state's and county's housing support program through Laura Baker Services Association.\n\nLastly\, the project includes 16 units with project-based rental assistance\, which will be administered by the Rice County Housing and Redevelopment Authority.
