About Us
Misfit Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a trans-owned, community-focused Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gym centering trans people and queer people. We also welcome allies, and anyone who hasn’t always felt comfortable walking into a martial arts gym.
Based in downtown Northfield, MN, Misfit BJJ offers small group classes in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for adults of all genders.
Coach Will Wiedenhoeft started learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2001. They originally trained in both Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai kickboxing, but fell in love with Jiu-Jitsu early on and gradually made the transition to focus on just Jiu-Jitsu. Will has a brown belt (4 stripes) under Professor Gina Franssen of X2 Fitness in Minneapolis, MN, and they trained from white to purple belt with Justin Morris of Third Heaven Martial Arts in Beaver Dam, WI.
Will has been an assistant instructor at Third Heaven Martial Arts, and they created and taught a successful Jiu-Jitsu club during their time as a student at St. Olaf College. Will started Misfit BJJ in spring of 2022, and opened the physical location in August 2022.
Will is a nonbinary queer person with a passion for sharing Jiu-Jitsu with people who haven’t always felt comfortable walking into a martial arts gym. Will also has a specific interest in helping people modify techniques to accommodate their body’s mobility needs.
